Couponing 101: How I Got My $200 Schwinn Clear Creak Hybrid Bike for $58 & Other Target Clearance Bikes

When I tell y'all I have been doing nothing but thinking about getting a new bike since this weather up and decided to act right...chile.

But bikes cost TOO damn much and there was no way I was going to spend upwards of $300.00 on a quality bike (people got bills you know)

So I fought the urge to splurge and the Coupon Gods rewarded my "patience" with a plethora of clearance bikes just in time for spring and I cashed in and you can too!

A common misconception with couponing is that you will always need a coupon to get a deal. When in all actuality often times couponers get amazing deals by using in store clearance sales & coupons. But when we see a great clearance sale on things that rarely get coupons like the deals I found on these bikes we snatch the deals ASAP!

Below you will see the 5 bikes I found on clearance in my local Target and a few tips on Target clearance hunting and markdown practices.

Please remember that all Target stores are not the same and carry different stock and amounts of inventory so what is available at my store may not be available at yours.    

However don't give up the hunt! 

There may be more or different bikes on clearance at your Target you just have to go and look what one does not have another one will =)

Target Clearance Shopping Tips

Targets Markdown Schedule:

Monday- Children's clothing, Baby items, electronics, office supplies/stationery etc.

Tuesday- Home decor, women's clothing and home items

Wednesday- Food, health and beauty items, men's clothing, toys and garden items

Thursday- Underwear/Lingerie, houseware, sporting goods, shoes and luggage

Friday- Cosmetics, Jewelry, hardware, automotive and home improvement  

Since I started clearance hunting at Target i've noticed a trend in their markdowns. Most markdowns across all departments start at 15% anything lower is normally just an in store sale. From 15% clearance items will go to 30% to 50% and then to 70%. At this point most stores will either be sold through their stock or begin to remove the items from the floor to make room for new product. 

Some stores however will make it to 90% off which is a couponers dream! This tends to happen more with seasonal items (summer and holiday decor) and not general in store collections.

How Often Do They Mark Down Items?

Generally speaking things get marked down to the next percentage every two weeks, but this can vary from store to store. I have watched items take 3 weeks or more to get marked down. So the time line can depend on how the item is doing in the store, what region the store is in etc. More often then not things do get marked down every 2 weeks but you just have to go to your local Target and check.

Will The Item Get Marked Down Again?

All Target items will get marked down again unless the price ends in a 4 or it sells out before the next markdown point.
